Crime AND Punishment AND Punishment

An exploration into editorial illustration

In this project I looked at an existing editorial article and produced my take on accompanying illustrations.

I referenced the article by Sharon J. Riley, featured in The Walrus: The Humboldt Crash: How Much Punishment Is Enough for Jaskirat Singh Sidhu?

This article explores the aftermath of the highly publicized Humboldt Bus Crash of April 2018. Specifically, how the crash it has affected the life of the man driving the truck that caused the accident. The three key take aways from this story: permanent residents can easily face deportation if they commit a crime and are deemed a ‘danger to society’ – there is no appeal on this process. Sidhu received an unprecedented amount of time in jail for his crime, which would likely have not been the case had he decided to fight the charges in court. Sidhu is truly remorseful, and likely haunted, by the lives he took in that accident.
